The moving teaching online virtual workshops are offered and sponsored by the Department of Instructional Design and Technology (IDT) at Emporia State University in Kansas. The IDT department is one of the best programs in the nation recognized by the Association of Educational Communications and Technology. 

The following IDT programs provide a comprehensive understanding of instructional theories and models used to support the integration of technology into teaching and an in-depth look at essential technology tools for the classroom. All programs can be completed fully online, fully face-to-face, or a blend of the two environments.

Dusti Howell, PhD

Professor of Instructional Design and Technology

Dr. Dusti Howell has taught at ESU for over two decades. He has taught in half a dozen countries and at every grade level from PK to graduate school. Dusti has written over a dozen books and since 2013 has brought in over $1.1 Million in STEM and computing grants, with a focus on teaching elementary and middle school teachers to integrate robotics and coding in their curriculum.
​For nearly three decades he’s been researching and presenting about the side effects of technology on learning as well as on innovative ways that screen time can be ‘Time Well Spent.’ He is chair of TekEffect, a think tank that strives to help kids use technology wisely (http://www.tekeffect.net).

Yeol Huh, PhD

Assistant Professor of Instructional Design and Technology

Since 2011, Dr. Yeol Huh has been teaching instructional technology / technology integration to pre-service teachers students in two different higher education institutions. He is interested in promoting learner-centered instruction by incorporating latest teaching and learning technologies. ​

​Melissa Reed, PhD

Associate Professor of Elementary Education, Early Childhood, and Special Education

​Dr. Melissa Reed has 20 years teaching experience in K-9 classrooms. She has served as an instructional coach. The past 15 years have been spent teaching courses to prepare teacher candidates at ESU. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate level courses online. Her research interest focuses on adolescent literacy, learning environments, technology integration, differentiated instruction, brain-based learning, mindfulness of the whole child, multicultural education, English language learners, diversity and inclusion.

Dabae Lee, PhD

Associate Professor of Instructional Design and Technology

Dr. Dabae Lee is the program director of the IDT graduate programs and an associate professor in the Department of Instructional Design and Technology at Emporia State University. She is serving as the program director of the virtual workshops for moving teaching online. She has 10 years of experience in teaching technology integration in higher education and is a renowned scholar specialized in personalized learning. She has recently received the ESU Presidential Award for Research and Creativity.

Kelly O'Neal-Hixon, PhD

Associate Professor of Elementary Education, Early Childhood, and Special Education

Dr. Kelly O’Neal-Hixson teaches graduate special education courses in literacy strategies and behavior management at Emporia State University. She also supervises special education practicum students at the elementary level. Dr. O’Neal-Hixson has taught various grades, K-8th, and 15 years at the university level. Her research focuses on behavior management, literacy instruction for the struggling reader, virtual supervision and professional development school (PDS) models for special education teacher candidates. ​

Janet Holland, PhD

Professor of Instructional Design and Technology

Dr. Janet L. Holland is a professor in Instructional Design and Technology Department in The Teachers College at Emporia State University, Emporia, KS. Dr. Holland teaches synchronous and asynchronous courses in a Master’s of Science degree program in Instructional Design and Technology. Courses taught are in the areas of instructional design, webpage design, image editing, and emerging media used for instruction and training.
She has served as president of the Kansas Association for Educational and Communications Technology (KAECT), and conference chair. Research and publication interests include human computer interaction in the field of instructional design and technology, biometric research using eye tracking and sensor data, augmented reality, online learning, mobile learning, globalization and wearable technologies. She has won awards for both teaching and research at Emporia State University. As an instructional designer, new technologies are continually examined in an effort to inspire innovative teaching and learning practices.

Zimeng (Luna) Li graduated from ESU in 2019 with a Master's degree in Instructional Design and Technology and has recently received the Outstanding Graduate Student Award for outstanding academic achievement with the Teacher's College.
She is the designer for the website, presentation templates, and the marketing poster for the Moving Teaching Online Virtual Workshops. She has over 6 years' experience in Graphic Design and over 3 years' experience in video editing and learning technology.
 She is working as an Instructional Technology Specialist at Metropolitian Community College (MCC). 

Joshua Key

Head of Learning & Development at Key Consulting
Learning & Development Specialist

Joshua Key is Head of Learning & Development at Key Consulting and provides his clients with professional Instructional Design analysis and support. He is also the Learning & Development Specialist at North America’s largest producer of biodiesel, where he designs and conducts virtual and in-person learning experiences to promote employee excellence. Joshua received his Master’s in IDT from Emporia State University.
Joshua analyzed the Needs Assessment Survey for this project and identified important trends in the professional development needs. He also conducted follow up with respondents to ensure the workshop creators had the best data available to inform their designs and meet the needs of Kansas educators in the current environment.
