The moving teaching online virtual workshops are offered and sponsored by the Department of Instructional Design and Technology (IDT) at Emporia State University in Kansas. The IDT department is one of the best programs in the nation recognized by the Association of Educational Communications and Technology.
The following IDT programs provide a comprehensive understanding of instructional theories and models used to support the integration of technology into teaching and an in-depth look at essential technology tools for the classroom. Professor of Instructional Design and TechnologyContact: dhowell@emporia.eduDr. Dusti Howell has taught at ESU for over two decades. He has taught in half a dozen countries and at every grade level from PK to graduate school. Dusti has written over a dozen books and since 2013 has brought in over $1.1 Million in STEM and computing grants, with a focus on teaching elementary and middle school teachers to integrate robotics and coding in their curriculum.
For nearly three decades he’s been researching and presenting about the side effects of technology on learning as well as on innovative ways that screen time can be ‘Time Well Spent.’ He is chair of TekEffect, a think tank that strives to help kids use technology wisely (http://www.tekeffect.net). |

Melissa Reed, PhDAssociate Professor of Elementary Education, Early Childhood, and Special EducationContact: mreed@emporia.eduDr. Melissa Reed has 20 years teaching experience in K-9 classrooms. She has served as an instructional coach. The past 15 years have been spent teaching courses to prepare teacher candidates at ESU. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate level courses online. Her research interest focuses on adolescent literacy, learning environments, technology integration, differentiated instruction, brain-based learning, mindfulness of the whole child, multicultural education, English language learners, diversity and inclusion.

Dabae Lee, PhDAssociate Professor of Instructional Design and TechnologyContact: dlee16@emporia.eduDr. Dabae Lee is the program director of the IDT graduate programs and an associate professor in the Department of Instructional Design and Technology at Emporia State University. She is serving as the program director of the virtual workshops for moving teaching online. She has 10 years of experience in teaching technology integration in higher education and is a renowned scholar specialized in personalized learning. She has recently received the ESU Presidential Award for Research and Creativity.

Associate Professor of Elementary Education, Early Childhood, and Special EducationContact: koneal@emporia.eduDr. Kelly O’Neal-Hixson teaches graduate special education courses in literacy strategies and behavior management at Emporia State University. She also supervises special education practicum students at the elementary level. Dr. O’Neal-Hixson has taught various grades, K-8th, and 15 years at the university level. Her research focuses on behavior management, literacy instruction for the struggling reader, virtual supervision and professional development school (PDS) models for special education teacher candidates.

Janet Holland, PhDProfessor of Instructional Design and TechnologyContact: jholland@emporia.eduDr. Janet L. Holland is a professor in Instructional Design and Technology Department in The Teachers College at Emporia State University, Emporia, KS. Dr. Holland teaches synchronous and asynchronous courses in a Master’s of Science degree program in Instructional Design and Technology. Courses taught are in the areas of instructional design, webpage design, image editing, and emerging media used for instruction and training.
She has served as president of the Kansas Association for Educational and Communications Technology (KAECT), and conference chair. Research and publication interests include human computer interaction in the field of instructional design and technology, biometric research using eye tracking and sensor data, augmented reality, online learning, mobile learning, globalization and wearable technologies. She has won awards for both teaching and research at Emporia State University. As an instructional designer, new technologies are continually examined in an effort to inspire innovative teaching and learning practices. |
